Do you ever wonder if you’re doing your career “right”? Maybe you have a detailed career plan that doesn’t seem to be unfolding the way you expected. Or, like a lot of people, maybe you don’t have a plan at all, relying instead on a series of somewhat disjointed decisions and chance opportunities. There’s a secret to all this: When you identify and align your personal and professional goals, you can create the roadmap that guides (or jump-starts) your important decisions. In this inaugural Minnesota PRSA Career Coffee event, career expert Amy Lindgren will provide initial information about career-life alignment strategies before opening the conversation to the real experts in your field – you. Come ready to learn, discuss and share.

An expert job search strategist, Amy Lindgren has helped thousands of people manage their careers, their career transitions, and their job search strategies. She is president of Prototype Career Service, a St. Paul firm she founded in 1985, while still an undergraduate student – a feat made possible by taking seven years to earn her degree. And a feat made necessary by the fact that she had held more than 50 jobs, had been fired five times and laid-off even more, and had closed two small service businesses – all before starting Prototype Career Service. It’s hard to find someone with more hands-on knowledge of career transition and job search.

Amy has authored 12 job search publications and writes Working Strategies, a weekly employment column that appears nationally (printed locally in the St. Paul Pioneer Press). She is also a frequent guest on public radio programs, including Minnesota Public Radio’s Mid-Morning with Kerri Miller (mpr.org), discussing such issues as millenials in the workforce, career transitions at mid-life and surviving workplace difficulties.

Here are three questions to get you in the right frame of mind for this facilitated discussion:

  • Did you choose your profession, and if so, why?
  • What professional goals have you set for yourself?
  • What personal goals does your choice of profession help you meet?

For extra credit:

  • What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received (or given)?
