About this event
A strategic value of the Minnesota chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is to “…Serve – Use our members’ rich talents to give back to our community, as well as provide enriching networking and professional growth experiences…”
The Executive Committee and the board of directors invite chapter members to join us for a volunteer event at the Feed My Starving Children Coon Rapids location on Thursday, November 13, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Our goal is to have 25 member volunteers (non-member guests are welcome!) to help pack food.
Later, we'll gather at a nearby location for refreshments and more fun and fellowship.
What do volunteers do?
Each packing session begins with an orientation and brief training. Then, volunteers are assigned to packing stations, where each person will have a different job in the assembly line (pouring ingredients, weighing bags, sealing bags, packing boxes, etc.). We also have “sit down” jobs putting label stickers on bags and more active warehouse roles. Staff will guide volunteers to appropriate roles. After packing, the session will end with a closing presentation where a staff member will share how many meals were packaged during our session and how many kids will be fed as a result. This closing presentation is very impactful and ties everything together nicely.
To register, visit https://www.fmsc.org/get-involved/volunteer/ and look for the box titled “Looking for a Specific Group?” – Search by group name or group leader name.
Group Name is “Minnesota PRSA” and Leader Name is “Marsha Pitts-Phillips”
Once you have clicked the “Join” button or followed the special link to your group, you will be required to log in or create an account, if you are not logged in already. Once logged in, you should see a page that says “Join Group” and includes the group name, group leader and reservation details. You can click “see who else has joined this group” if desired.
Under “Who is attending?” be sure to select the correct box (I am coming by myself, I am coming and will be bringing others with me or I’m not coming but need to add others to this group). If you are just signing up yourself, no additional fields will appear. If you select either of the other options, additional fields will appear for you to add attendee names (note: since you are logged in at this point, you do not have to re-type your own name, just additional attendees).
Once you have added any additional attendee names, review FMSC’s volunteer age and other guidelines and check the box indicating your agreement. Then, click “Continue.” You should receive confirmation that you are signed up. At this point you are all set unless you need to add any additional names.
