Highlights from the PRSA 2019 International Conference

Published on 10/21/2019

Our Minnesota Chapter has had a milestone weekend at the 2019 International Conference in San Diego. Below are a couple highlights!

A RECORD THREE MINNESOTA CHAPTER COLLEAGUES INDUCTED INTO COLLEGE OF FELLOWS

First, welcome and congratulations to our three newest members of the PRSA College of FellowsJanet Swiecichowski, APR, Fellow PRSA, Tom Jollie, APR, Fellow PRSA, and Paul Omodt, APR, Fellow PRSA. Our Chapter was very well-represented in San Diego at the Induction Ceremony. Only once have we previously had more than one member enter the College of Fellows, and that was in 2015. We should all be proud of our Chapter for putting forth three of our deserving colleagues this year!

DAVID HAKENSEN, APR, FELLOW PRSA EARNS PRESTIGIOUS PAUL M. LUND AWARD

Equally exciting, we are thrilled to share that David Hakensen, APR, Fellow PRSA, has been honored with the Paul M. Lund Public Service Award. The award honors a PRSA member whose participation as a volunteer in important public activities has increased the common good and reflected credit on the organization. David becomes the third member of our Chapter to be honored with this significant award since its inception. David has been active in PRSA his entire career, serving as president of the Minnesota Chapter and Midwest District Chair. Additionally, he has served on multiple nonprofit organization boards and has given countless hours of his time as a volunteer. You can read more about David’s award in the press release from PRSA National.

MARGARET ANN HENNEN, APR, FELLOW PRSA RECOGNIZED BY COLLEGE OF FELLOWS LEADERSHIP

During the College of Fellows Induction Ceremony on Saturday night, Margaret Ann Hennen, APR, Fellow PRSA, was recognized for her work over the past year chronicling the history of the College on the milestone of its 30th anniversary. Her work included researching deep into the archives to study the creation of the College, surveying all current members, and spending time interviewing some of the founders and early contributors to the College, including our own Minnesota Chapter legend Ann Barkelew, APR, Fellow PRSA. Congratulations to Margaret Ann for this recognition!
